Value-Added Selling : How to Sell More Profitably, Confidently, and Professionally by Competing on Value, Not Price ReviewI have been a professional salesperson for over two decades, and have sold all over the world. Finding a sales book that actually makes me money is difficult. Most sales books are very general and motivational based. Tom Reilly is right on target. This is not the first book I have read from this author. Crush Price Objections and Coaching For Sales Success were two books that I found to be excellent. His book Value Added Selling is even better. If you want to become a multi-million dollar producer, the ideas in this book will make it happen. I don't give my commission away anymore. I am an avid reader of sales books and consider this one of the best sales books written. I just closed one of the largest orders (profitable) in my sales career using tips from this book.Value-Added Selling : How to Sell More Profitably, Confidently, and Professionally by Competing on Value, Not Price Overview

The Fly Tier's Benchside Reference ReviewThis is not a book that provides patterns and technique; this is a book of techniques that may be applied to patterns.
This wonderful book has very clear illustrations of just about every dressing technique I've ever seen, or heard of, or wondered about. The most obscure technique for winging I know of, the "reverse hackle" or as the Brit's call it, "wonderwing" is clearly shown. I'd never run across anything about this winging style, save for a few photos in European journals. I find the inclusion of this obscure technique amazing.
This book has something for everybody: beginners will have choices for tying that are easier (or, more sophisticated) than the guide they are working from; and, intermediate and advanced tiers will find interesting new methods or new uses for existing materials.
I simply have never seen a survey of technique this extensive anywhere in the (already voluminous) fly tying literature.
Mr. Schollmeyer's photos are sharp, well oriented and highly illustrative. Mr. Leeson's text (which is a substantial departure from his superb prose work) is a model of clarity and concise description.
Overall this is a fine work and one which will, I predict, become a standard in the field. The Fly Tier's Benchside Reference Overview

Lead Generation for the Complex Sale: Boost the Quality and Quantity of Leads to Increase Your ROI ReviewAs a VP of Sales & Marketing for a company with a complex sales process, I recognize the importance and difficulty of lead generation. Unfortunately, this book gives absolutely no quality information or insights into how to generate leads more efficiently. The tone of the book is academic - it strives to sound important but ends up in most instances saying nothing. Here's an excerpt from a section headed "Iterative Approach with Tactics": "By manipulating tactics to perform just a little bit better, it is hypothetically possible to double the response rate for a program without increasing spending. That said, the appropriate action is to optimize your tactics continuously and incrementally as performance dictates..." I think the author is saying that you can generate twice as many leads if you improve your lead generation program, especially if your current program isn't very good. In terms of content, the first 80+ pages pretty much make two points over and over: (1) that sales and marketing have to work together for successful lead generation, and (2) you need to define what a "lead" is. The other 120 pages of the book skim lightly over various methods of lead generation - none of the methods are new or imaginative; they are the same methods any marketing professional is already familiar with. If you are brand new to the idea of lead generation, this book will give you an overview, but if you're experienced and looking for new and imaginative insights, look elsewhere.Lead Generation for the Complex Sale: Boost the Quality and Quantity of Leads to Increase Your ROI Overview

The Art of Selling to the Affluent: How to Attract, Service, and Retain Wealthy Customers and Clients for Life ReviewIf I were to follow the rules of a savvy, demanding reader, as suggested in the book, "How to Read a Book," I would have casually read this book, without trying to absorb as much as I can; and opted for the second read to be when I choose to be "one with the author," and act like we are truly havng a conversation.
But this 215-page book has more information in it that anybody, or at least myself could expect, that there's no way I would lightly read it. Besides writing throughout the margins, I took t least 8 full pages of copious notes on this first read.
And I am sure that I not only will re-read this book, I will become one with the affluent, as a direct result of applying the lessons in this book.
Here's some of the many quotes that I appreciated:
"If you or your company is targeting major purchase decision makers, regardless of the products or services involved, your income depends upon your ability to get in sync with the major decision-making process of your ideal affluent clientele."
"When selling to the affluent, you don't simply manage the sale; you manage the relationship."
"Offering the lowest price has the least influence on whether the affluent will conduct future business with you."
"Face-to-face communication is .. the richest medium of communication possible. It engages all five senses and includes everything about your appearance, mannerisms, and speech matters."
"...move beyond believing that the affluent are bigger than life or that you need them a lot more than they need you. The relationship you seek is one where you need them and they need you."
"It has been said that,'You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. You can tell whether a man is wise by his questions.'"
"There's an old saying that 'price is only a consideration in the absence of value.'"
"Solving a client problem is obvious. Resolve it quickly and to the client's satisfaction, and it directly impacts repeat business and referrals."
There are three elements in this book that I was surprised by:
1. Although the Ritz-Carlton Service credo was mentioned many times, as the standard by which the affluent make their purchases, I had to surf the net to find out what that credo actually says. I was surprised that the credo was not as in the chapter that discusses how to design your own business credo.
2. Perhaps because this book was published in 2005, I was surprised by the suggestion to send so many emails. This has now been replaced with sending SendOut Cards.
3. While I was so "stoked" by Chapter 8, "Becoming Even More Magnetc: Internet Savvy," it was interesting to note that the guidance in this book, on page 132, about "Google Local" is out of date. And, by the time I read this chapter, I thought, "Wow! Could Oechsli possibly offer more gems in the pages left?" The answer is, a resounding, "Absolutely!"The Art of Selling to the Affluent: How to Attract, Service, and Retain Wealthy Customers and Clients for Life Overview

CustomerCentric Selling, Second Edition ReviewAs reviewed in our January 6, 2004 issue:
Let's cut to the chase: This is the best book on sales we've read in many, many years.
"CustomerCentric Selling" doesn't break new ground with sales tricks and techniques; rather, its strength is in the fact that it ties sales, marketing, and business imperatives together in a way that has the potential to turn conventional selling approaches on their collective ears.
In fact, there's a bit of a paradox here: If you're a dyed-in-the-wool software sales rep with a quota to meet or beat, you may be disappointed in this book, because you won't find any magic bullets you can employ to meet your month-end number.
If you are that beleaguered sales rep, you may even find yourself annoyed with Bosworth and Holland, because their message is that your obsession with quotas is misguided. That's easy for them to say, right? They don't have a sales VP banging them on the head every Monday morning.
But that's exactly the point: If you're that rep, get your sales VP to read "CustomerCentric Selling" Better yet, get the company's CEO, CFO, COO, CTO, VP marketing, investors, and board of directors to read it.
"CustomerCentric Selling" does such a superb job of outlining why people buy -- and when and from whom -- it should be required reading prior to the creation of any business plan.
Yes, it has the word "selling" in the title, but this book is a really a business book more than it is a sales manual.
Bosworth and Holland won't give you 15 clever opening lines for telesales, or 12 terrific PowerPoint templates. But they will help you understand what it is that you're selling, whom you should be selling it to, where you should find them, and how you can refine and manage the messaging as well as the sales process.
In other words: Read this book when you're ready to stop screwing around. Read this book when you've realized that selling to early adopters isn't really selling, it's order-taking. Read this book if you're tired of acting as referee between marketing and sales.
Although "CustomerCentric Selling" isn't written specifically to software people, the fact that the authors have spent most of their lives with technology companies permeates every page. Because it applies a sales perspective to Geof Moore's chasm concepts, the relevance for software companies is very high indeed.CustomerCentric Selling, Second Edition Overview

What Great Salespeople Do: The Science of Selling Through Emotional Connection and the Power of Story ReviewMike Bosworth's and Ben Zoldan's new book, What Great Salespeople Do, is a fast-paced, easy-to-read and understand approach to selling. Having spent thirty-plus years in sales, I personally can attest to the power of story telling. After reading Mike and Ben's book, I created my own stories and experimented. Much to my delight, I barely finished my stories before my prospects shared theirs. This remarkable book takes selling from a sleazy, slimy profession and helps transform it into a humanizing, caring and helpful approach that prospects not only relate to, but embrace and become internal sales supporters. The book is well-written and engaging from the first page: the individual stories grabbed my attention and paved the way to understand the scientific and emotional aspects of 'Why' story telling is so powerful and effective. I found What Great Salespeople Do to be insightful, revealing and extremely helpful. What Great Salespeople Do: The Science of Selling Through Emotional Connection and the Power of Story Overview
