Child Abuse and Neglect: Diagnosis, Treatment and Evidence - Expert Consult: Online and Print, 1e ReviewThis book, recently published, is one of the most comprehensive references on child abuse currently available. It includes just about everything you might want to know about child abuse, from epidemiology, to diagnosis and treatment and everything else in between. It makes a very good case for shaken baby syndrome and does a very nice job of putting together the biological as well as the anecdotal evidence for its existence. It includes items not usually thought of as child abuse, such as a chapter on drug-facilitated sexual assault. Adolescents are still subject to child abuse, something not often considered. I found the weakest subject in the book the chapter on international issues in child maltreatment, which gets only cursory treatment. My experience with child abuse in Latin America and Asia is that it can be a very difficult issue to raise in many legal systems, and physicians are much less likely to report its occurrence, even when taking cultural issues into account.

Clinical Simulation ReviewThis is a Great Book for those running, working, designing of implementing simulation activities in the health care setting. It has been written by many of the most experiences people in the field and the way it is written is as if you were sharing with them experiences, while drinking coffee on the lobby of a simulation congress.
Great ideas!! Great Tools!! It would have saved us money and effort if we would read it a couple of years ago!!

Travel Medicine: Expert Consult, 2e (Expert Consult Title: Online + Print) ReviewHaving just started a travel clinic, I was keen to have a read through this textbook. It is thoroughly written bij experts in the field. A very helpful chapter on how to start and market a travel clinic proved quite useful; it gives practical tips on how to do this. The layout is beautifully done with maps and tables, made with attention to detail.
I liked the sections on "Aircraft cabin environment" (bits on air filtration, cosmic radiation and inflight medical emergencies) and the four chapters on travelers' diarrhea.
What I missed was detailed information on how to manage vaccines and the cold chain.

As advertised, this is truly "not a book for bankers that want to maintain the status quo." Brett dives into his topics with enthusiasm and talks very directly about how customer behavior and technology, always disruptive forces, are dramatically changing the financial services industry. The book covers everything from measurement of customer/client/member expectations and experience, and offers very good insight on how to improve service levels through the very disruptive forces that often befuddle this industry (e.g. new technologies like social media, mobile payments, OFM). He dedicates entire chapters to topics like the call center, brick and mortar branching, CRM, and VRU systems to manage customer interactions. Who else writes about VRU systems in banking and the impact on the customer experience? He offers sage advice on the state of web development in meeting customer needs (lacking in many industries quite frankly) and other self-service channels like ATMs and online/remote banking. He does a good job of providing some context for technology changes, and how recent innovation will impact banking over the next decade.
