Power System Relaying (RSP) ReviewI used the first edition of this book during my undergraduate studies. The book is a good introduction to power system protection, but it's doesn't provide in depth details about the topics covered. The changes made to the 3rd edition are relatively small compare to the 2nd edition with some information added about wide area measurement and PMUs. The book is a good introduction for power system relaying but if you are looking for a reference book I highly recommend the book by P.M. The topics covered in this book include basic concepts of protection system, relay logic, basics of setting selection, transmission line protection systems, bus protection, Transformer and reactor protection, HVDC protection, SSR protection, Protection coordination, Generator and motor protection. The book also covers complex topics like system aspects of protection, reliability of the protection system, and Makov modeling of protection systems. The book was first published in 1998, so it doesn't cover the area of smart grid or application of PMU's in power system protection. But this is a good reference book for both researchers and engineers and it`s currently the best book in the area of power system protection.
