MOST PEOPLE ARE SO BUSY AT WORK, WITH ROUTINES, THEY FORGET THE FUNDAMENTALS AND THE NEW DIMENSIONS AND THE DYNAMICS. THE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE OF THIS TEAM OF AUTHORS IN THE FORM OF THIS BOOK, WILL BE A GREAT HELP IN INCORPORATING THE SIX SIGMA CONCEPTS, MEASURE UPTO THE CHALLENGES OF TIME THE TRANSACTIONS AND SERVICE INDUSTRY IS CURRENTLY FACING, AND IMPROVING THE BOTTOM LINE. Florida's First People: 12,000 Years of Human History ReviewThis is the best book I've read on Florida's Paleo-Indians so far, not only for identifying pottery, tools (both shell & stone) and otherartifacts, but the author's details on reconstructing the methods of creating and using the same, are wonderful. The photos and drawings of hundreds of different potsherds are alone worth the price of the book. Best Practices in School Neuropsychology: Guidelines for Effective Practice, Assessment, and Evidence-Based Intervention (Wiley Desktop Editions) ReviewBest Practices in School Neuropsychology is a well-written guidebook for school psychologists who believe that an important goal of education is to provide experiences that result in maximum possible learning for individual students and who wish to pursue a brain-based and cognitive route to practice. This book is of particular importance when considering the education of learners with diverse neurobiological systems who arrive at school with great variations in their readiness to succeed academically. The field of school neuropsychology offers guidance to school psychologists for both assessing these individuals and assisting teachers to remediate student challenges and teach to learners' strengths.
Importantly, in the foreword by Elaine Fletcher-Janzen, the reader is reminded of the importance of neuroscientific findings in the area of reading. Specifically, that the brain has a greater degree of plasticity than once thought and that through educational interventions we can achieve long-term positive reading outcomes. Later, Fletcher-Janzen continues `Executive functions, for example, are critical to reading comprehension.' Today when psychologists examine executive functions we can also see how the child's attention and memory work. Exploring these and other cognitive functions can assist school psychologists to guide other educators in order to differentiate instruction.
The editor implies that as the 1990s, the so called `Decade of the Brain,' fade into the past and each decade brings more excitement and information about human potential, it seems that school psychologists interested in the brain and cognitive connections have a meaningful part to play both in research and practice. School neuropsychologists can bring important knowledge about cognitive processes to the discussion of brain function and student achievement to inform research as well as practice in schools.
This book is organized broadly around three topics: 1) Professional issues in school neuropsychology, 2) Practice issues in school neuropsychology, and 3) Clinical applications in school neuropsychology. Editor, Daniel Miller, has provided a book that contains current and key information for school psychologists who may be interested in obtaining further education in the field, or those who may want to read to enhance their understanding of the brain and cognition, for example in areas such as RTI (Response to Intervention) and assessment of children with various learning challenges including academic disabilities, processing deficits, and medical disorders. Lastly, it should be mentioned that also included is `the rationale for the importance of school psychologists' collaboration with parents, educators and other professionals' in the community and `unique challenges in working with culturally diverse populations.'

A Complete and Balanced Service Scorecard: Creating Value Through Sustained Performance Improvement ReviewThe Service Scorecard comprehensively explores the service environment and how performance measurement framework needs to be different given the challenges in measuring services. Most literature on performance measurement has focused on products which are tangible (and can more easily be subjected to quality testing), while service is largely an intangible. The book does an excellent job at creating a modified framework using seven categories of measures acronymed GLACIER and consolidating all the measures into a single performance index.
Tyagi and Gupta have shared their view on a spectrum of measurement systems - from Balanced Scorecard, Performance Prism, Six Sigma Business Scorecard to quality models like EQFM and Baldridge. Through their comparative analysis they have tried to build on the strengths of these systems to develop their framework.
The chapter on Best Practices provides a variety of examples from service-oriented companies on how they have used one or more of the service performance measures to excel and create a competitive advantage. It was facinating to read examples on how choosing the right measure is critical - depending on the measure you could be focused on cost reduction and miss the opportunity for greater value addition. 3D Game Engine Architecture: Engineering Real-Time Applications with Wild Magic (The Morgan Kaufmann Series in Interactive 3D Technology) ReviewOne of the criticisms I had of Dave Eberly's previous 3D Game Engine Design is that it didn't really say much about how to design an engine. Rather, it focused mostly on the programming/implementation details, which was disappointing to some. This new book is what many people expected from the older book.
In this book, the author walks through the design and architecture of a 3D game engine, using his Wild Magic engine as an example, but also drawing on his experience developing NDL's NetImmerse. Throughout, he describes why each design decision was made, and in many cases alternative solutions are discussed as well. This isn't just a high level discussion, however, as ample source code, figures, equations, and sample applications are included to get you started with implementation.
The topics covered include the core engine systems, scene graphs, renderers, cameras, LOD, animation, terrain, special effects, physics and collision detection. Numerous sample applications and tools are also included. Dave's writing style is clear and minimally conversational, and he's kept the math to a minimum, making this a remarkably easy read.
This isn't a complete treatment of a game engine, since some important topics (e.g. scripting, audio) aren't included, but the material it does cover is worth it. The Entrepreneur's Guide to Selling ReviewThis is a very concise book. It is literally a 144 pp bible for selling, with little not covered. The author ( a top rate sales trainer) is really on top of his subject with this one. But, for you to to get the value from the book, you need to read it all. The sum is greater than the parts. Plenty of real life examples are used to bring the lessons home. I enjoyed the host of templates and checklists that covered the gamut of the sales game. the book is logically organized and very clearly written.
