Word Biblical Commentary Vol. 16, Ezra-nehemiah (williamson), 470pp ReviewIf you can only own one commentary on Ezra-Nehemiah, this is undoubtedly the one you should have. It is also probably the best Old Testament volume in the Word series. Biblical specialists will find a wealth of information here, including Williamson's detailed arguments about authorship, date, and history of composition of these books. It was Williamson, along with Sara Japhet, who finally broke the decade old consensus that the Chronicler wrote Ezra and Nehemiah. His previous arguments on this issue are significantly advanced in the commentary. Williamson's translation and text-critical notes are detailed and thorough. At the same time, Williamson's discussions of literary structure, his careful exegesis, and his theological commentary should be accessble and of great value for non-specialists. Some advances have been made on archaelogical and sociological issues over the decade and a half since this commentary was written, but it still stands as the best single reference to these two biblical books.Word Biblical Commentary Vol. 16, Ezra-nehemiah (williamson), 470pp Overview

New Testament Survey ReviewWithout a doubt, Tenney's book does indeed present an evangelical yet scholarly view of the New Testament. Tenney makes no hesitation to say that he does believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God from the beginning. Tenney's work, however, is not a textual commentary on textual criticism. His book is a brief introduction to the New Testament.
Tenney's book does a wonderful job of presenting the historical background of the New Testament and using the book of Acts, he traces the footsteps of the Apostles as they wrote the New Testament Canon. At the end of each chapter he includes a very helpful bibliograpy to help the reader study deeper the various books, archeology, and history of what he has dealt with rather quickly.
I used this book as a freshmen in Bible college and it had a profound influence on my personal understanding of the background and history of the New Testament and the early Church. I highly recommend anyone serious about studying Scripture to purchase and read Tenney's book.New Testament Survey Overview

The Chronology of the Old Testament ReviewWhile the other reviewer is correct, that printing the charts is quite difficult without the proper tools, the wealth of information included in this volume are worth twice the price even without printed charts. Some of the problems solved in this book I had been looking at for years without a feasible solution. Some of the problems solved, I didn't even know were problems.
Dr. Thomas has degrees in mathematics, geology, chemistry and education. He is an ex-evolutionist. He relies on the King James Version of the Bible, and the texts from which it was translated. Highly recommended for anyone who is beginning to doubt the veracity of God's Word. The Chronology of the Old Testament Overview
