Physiology of Exercise and Healthy Aging ReviewAs an aging physician, I was looking for scientific information about the aging process and how to address it. This book is based upon science and is well referenced if you want to search further. It is well written, concise and readable for the non-scientist. While not specific on excercise programs, it directs you to where you can get more information. I use the functional movement screen chapter written by Gray Cook to test for the source of biomechanical dysfunction. This book also gives ideas on how to design, implement, and supervise therapeutic exercise programs for orthopedic injuries. I especially liked the information on managing the healing process through rehabilitation, aquatic therapy, and orthotics. A great resource to have if you are interested in learning how to set up an effective rehabilitation program and biomechanical screen.

This text is arranged topically by disease/ injury process with the introductory chapters oriented towards concerns in neuroscience nursing. The depth and breadth of the material is suitable to meet my needs in the neuro-intensive care unit of the Level I trauma center in which I work. It provides a ready and easy to use reference with solid explantions of disease process, complications, treatment, pharmacology, and nursing considerations. I prefer Hoppenfeld and Pocket Guide to Musculoskeletal Diagnosis for a practical physical exam. And the Pocket Guide to MSK Dx is also good for history taking.
